Jamiu Owolabi Abashin
Nigeria
1965 –April 29, 2015
In 1998 Jamiu Owolabi Abashin was paid $400 to carry a package of ‘clothing’ from Bangkok to Java, Indonesia. He was arrested after landing in Indonesia. The package actually contained 5.5kg of heroin.
Abashin was travelling on a false Spanish passport and the Indonesian government continues to refer to him by the name on this false passport, Raheem Agbaje Salami.
Abashin was sentenced to life in prison in 1999, before this sentence was promptly reduced on appeal to 20 years. In 2006, state prosecutors appealed Abashin's sentence, resulting in it increasing to death penalty.
During the early hours of April 29, 2015, Abashin was executed along with seven other drug criminals on the prison island of Nusakambangan.
