Marco Archer Cardoso Moreira

Moreira had been involved in drug smuggling with Columbian Drug Cartels as a teenager. In 2003, Moreira was arrested when authorities found 13.4kgs of cocaine stowed in his hang-gliding tubes at Jakarta airport.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

On January 18th on the prison Island of Nusakambangan, Moreira became the first Brazillian citizen to ever be executed overseas. On the day of Moreira’s execution, there were issues with thepaperwork in regards to getting Father Burrows, the priest in charge of performing last rites, to the island. According to later testimony by Father Burrows, as a result of his absence, Moreira, “had to be dragged from his cell crying and saying ‘help me.’ He was so afraid of what was to come he defecated on himself.

 

Moreira was the only prisoner executed in Indonesia this year to not receive their last rites.
